Timeless Visions

It's Never Too Late To Become Who You Might Have Been!

Do you feel as though time is running out and that now is the time for change?

Maybe you have a creeping sense of dread that too much time has passed and that the hour is late for the realization of your goals or the restoration of balance to not only your life, but the entire planet.  Even though society has advanced dramatically since our ancestors lived only on what they could harvest or hunt, what about improvements where it really matters in the quality of experience.

"The future for us lies in recovering 'first things"- Lao Tzu

What did our ancestors know that could be brought forward?

Despite enormous amounts of free time there is little evidence to suggest that modern peoples are any happier than their ancestors.  Too few people in this day and age are encouraged to follow their bliss.  In contrast native cultures provide experiences congruent with individual purpose.  The modern era lacks the equivalent of the 4 day vision quest of traditional cultures that enabled personal growth and continued development of skill.

As capable as modern civilization is in technological advancement, ancient cultures were equally competent in mastery over consciousness and the physical self as evidenced by the practices of yoga, martial arts, and other ancient arts.  Neither approach leads to creation of the ideal lifestyle.

What we need today is lore that relates us to more than just our local communities or cultural societies, but to our entire planet, Wild Lore.

Since the dawn of civilization humanity has passed on traditional knowledge or wisdom as lore to future generations.  Knowledge that has been earned through experience or entrusted to a carefully selected successor qualifies as lore.  Passing on the wisdom of past generations as lore is an artful process best achieved by skilled mentors.

The Mentors Guiding The WildLore Experience Are:

JY.jpgJon Young is the author of "Animal Tracking Basics", "Coyote's Guide to Mentoring", and the "Kamana Naturalist Training Program".   Kamana is an independent study course that blends the studies of tracking, field craft, navigation, botany, ecology, bird language, and the art of mentoring.

In addition, Jon is the narrator of a series of audio CD's entitled "Seeing through Native Eyes: Understanding the Language of Nature" and "Advanced Bird Language: Reading the Concentric Rings of Nature.

  • More than 100 Organizations providing guided Outdoor Experiences follow Jon Young's mentoring models.
  • Each of Jon Young's Art of Mentoring workshops hosted around the world are attended by hundreds at a time.
  • A Bird Language display based on Jon's training is now a permanent exhibit at the Boston Museum of Science.
  • As a trained professional mentor, Jon has been mentoring individuals for over 25 years with the tools learned from powerful native leaders.

"This program, in my 25 years of mentoring is by far the most powerful, most effective model that I've yet worked with..."

"I see the greatest results from this program against all other program experiences that I've had..." – Jon Young

Aunty.jpgAunty Mahealani- Is a world renowned Hawaiian elder possessing the original teachings of her people Ho'opono pono (making right more right) that gave birth to conflict resolution.  With the aid of her ancestors Aunty is able to access mana or power to aid others.  Her mastery of Hawaiian practices enables her to cleanse people and places of grief, anger, and fear allowing harmony to return.  For generations these traditions have remained kapu meaning that this sacred knowledge has been forbidden to outsiders until very recently.

In a time when the words of the elders are disregarded and people have become deaf to the wisdom of the wilderness, WildLore  Mentors are attracted to the WildLore process that allows mentors to identify suitable heirs for the continuation of their

cultural knowledge in order to preserve these traditions for future generations.  Each WildLore mentor is actively engaged in identifying key individuals that will formally be designated as "successors" to their lineage.

A group or workshop format is inappropriate for sharing closely held secrets requiring a relationship with the recipient.  Trust is a necessary element missing from the anonymous class format.  For example teaching someone to outrun a deer could potentially result in killing the deer without the correct approach.

When sharing such teachings a trusting relationship with the receiver is necessary in order to ensure the safety of the individual and the environment.  Many teachings have been passed down through generations one to one with great care in order to ensure the integrity of the teaching remains undiluted by uncertainty or confusion.

Wisdom is acquired from life outside of school.

A 10 year old Jon Young was returning to his suburban home from his latest solo adventure in the woods when he managed to capture a snapping turtle.  On his triumphant walk home a jeep passed by stopping as soon as the driver spotted Jon with the snapping turtle.  It had been foretold to the driver of the jeep, Tom Brown Jr., that he would recognize his very first student by the sign he carried and that he should mentor the boy in the ways of the Apache Scout as taught to him by his mentor "Stalking Wolf" an Apache spiritual leader.  For the next 7 years Jon Young was intensively mentored by phone and frequent outdoor adventures when his knowledge of the wilderness was tested repeatedly with artful questions that only served to increase his curiosity about the deep magic of nature.

As a young adult, Jon encountered his next mentor, Ingwe an African of British ancestry and founder of the African scouts for boys as well as the storied Order of the Claw.  Ingwe entrusted to Jon the traditions of the Akamba warrior, famed African trackers and hunters of legendary ability.  Over the next 3 decades Jon's knowledge expanded exponentially with continued contact with his mentors and the addition of new mentors adding to and growing the power of lore he already possessed.

Do you possess the characteristics sought by WildLore Mentors?

•         Can you muster the courage to face almost anything?

•         Do you possess a sense of humor including the ability to laugh at yourself?

•         Are you resourceful enough to seek your own answers with only the aid of vague clues?

•         Can you be flexible in your way of thinking and your way of doing things?

•         Are you adaptable to change?

•         Are you willing to make mistakes learning through trial and error?

•         Have you ever felt that you had an important mission to fulfill?

•         Do you believe you can make a difference?

These characteristics are consistently found in survivors of: death camps, terminal illnesses, and other traumatic life threatening experiences.  The cultural elements used in mentoring develop and build upon these traits which have been recently linked to people with successful careers and top performing athletes.

Courage and the ability to overcome adversity are highly valued traits in our society.  These traits are developed purposely when cultivating an understanding of nature.  Adapting responses to the demands of the moment is paramount in surviving in an otherwise harsh environment.  Routines of Awareness that make the Bushman astounding hunters and Aboriginals amazing trackers are available to anyone with the humility to learn from others and their own mistakes.

Many of the challenges you will face are like sheep in wolves clothing.

Seemingly difficult problems often hide their own solutions.  One of the more attractive qualities of this learning journey is the simplicity of the principles applied and yet so many struggle mightily to overcome illusionary obstacles.  Similar to losing weight, we want to lose extra pounds when necessary, we know what is required, we have what it takes, yet it is next to impossible for so many.  With what is being described here the stakes are much higher than losing weight it's about losing the chance for the life that was meant for you and only you.

By connecting to the wisdom keepers of ageless lore protected for generations, you will benefit from:

  • Skyrocketing energy once your passions have been ignited.

  • Synergy created by operating within your gift that will thrust you towards your goals minimizing wasted energy and related stress thus extending your longevity

  • Purpose and meaning that comes from operating within your gifts satisfying the never ending desires that plague our existence.  You will cease to be harassed by unfulfilled needs.  Whether you are slim, young, rich, or powerful, becomes irrelevant.  What was once dull becomes magnificently vibrant.

  • Mentoring providing a decided edge over all other forms of personal development that will enable you to learn faster cutting off years of struggle so that you can enjoy the benefits of your efforts sooner

  • Cultural elements used in mentoring that will restore your childlike enthusiasm for life while allowing you to retain your better judgment.

  • Laws of attraction permitting you to attain all you desire and repel all things undesirable.

  • Increased awareness producing experiences unlike any you've ever known.

In the western view you have a unique gift to offer the world that originates from the sum of your experiences and fulfillment of your potential.  Mentoring through WildLore is designed to aid you in the discovery of a unique experience that never was or ever could be experienced by anyone else.  Through a series of trials, riddles, and competitions you will be challenged to push the edges of your knowledge and understanding.

How It Works:

1. Call in to a weekly group call lasting from 60-90 minutes:

During these calls Jon and Aunty will cover additional material that is pertinent to everyone. These calls will also offer an opportunity to share experiences among the group and offer feedback.

"When deciding upon whether to join the program I discounted the value of the group calls only to later discover that they were far more worthwhile than I could've imagined."

David Schafer - year one graduate

2 reasons why you want to use the phone:

First- The technology is so sophisticated that the connections are very clear.  It will be like sitting around a campfire listening to the elders tell their teaching stories.  No one will speak over anyone else because a call moderator will direct every aspect of the call helping the call to flow smoothly producing a dynamic affect.

Second- Studies show we hear and retain more information via telephone than in person similar in the way that a blind person whose hearing and concentration powers develop far beyond those that can see.  When in person your eyes tend to wander, you're sizing people up, trading pleasantries, or thinking about how others perceive you.  Often you're easily distracted by facial features of others, temperature discomforts, and people moving around.  All these factors can derail your concentration and diffuse your thoughts.

Conference calls can eliminate all these distractions.

Telephone conferencing produces the highest possible degree of focused concentration, since you focus your attention on the source of the sound entering your ear.  You listen better, comprehend more, visualize more easily, and retain information far longer.

2. Every 2 weeks join in an individual call with Jon:

The intent of these calls will be for Jon to construct customized experiences for the individual, make suggestions based on the skill level of the individual, and then to follow up on the previous week's activities in order to maximize the value of the exercises.

3 Alternating with your individual call with Jon you can choose to work with other mentors such as Aunty Mahealani or another specialist to meet specific needs every 2 weeks.

 4. A weekend event will occur once every trimester:

While event attendance is not required, the initial event provides the mentor an opportunity to get to know you personally and assess your skill level.  Future adventures are carefully constructed to impart an important lesson that can only be taught through firsthand experience.  These gatherings also allow bonding among other patrons that share in this journey leading to the creation of a strong community that will outlast your WildLore experience.

Since Timeless Visions is a distance learning experience relocation is unnecessary.  Best of all you'll be mentored in developing a deep relationship with your local place so that you don't need to start over all again the way you do when learning somewhere far from home.

In addition to being personally mentored by masters of their craft you'll be saving tons of money related to the costs of living away from home.  Working directly with experts will also save loads of time increasing the efficiency of your learning experience and reducing the number of painful mistakes endured when learning from less skilled trainers.

Event dates will be announced soon!

5. The Kamana Naturalist Training program in independent study format is included in the cost of the program. Student services are not provided and are required for levels 3 & 4.  Reimbursement will be offered for materials cost only.

6. Exclusive access to the Timeless Fire internet forum.

Here you will have an opportunity to share your experiences or stories and receive feedback from others as well as interact with selected individuals from past programs.  This is a crucial element that replicates the campfire setting when the stories of the day were shared among the village and the elders extracted lessons from the experiences and expanded upon them with their own tales or spoke of the legends from the ancestors.

This opportunity will never be available again!

What synchronicity brought you here in this the final year WildLore will continue to accept applications for its Timeless Visions mentoring experience?  As the need for the extraordinary talents of WildLore mentors continues to grow, their ability to spend their valuable time in this intensive mentoring experience is rapidly fading.  The growth of their reputations worldwide adds daily to the calls for their special abilities.

Three years ago WildLore began this unique mentoring experience then known as the Jon Young Protégé Program.  At that time a goal of 4 years was set to identify a special group of individuals to continue working with over a longer period of time.  If your application is accepted at any time during the 4th year you will have the opportunity to complete at least the 9 month term and some will be invited to continue further.

The application deadline is 7/31/2009.  After this date no applications will be accepted and Timeless Visions will be closed to all newcomers though past members will continue enjoy WildLore benefits.

Time Commitment

There is a significant emphasis within this work placed upon the integration of the natural world into the modern lifestyle.  The structure of the experience is modeled upon the orderliness of nature; therefore the quality of time is always stressed as being more important than the quantity of time.

Those that make the fastest progress along this journey are the ones that are the most organized.  Anyone open to acquiring the necessary organizational skills will be provided the opportunity to strengthen weaknesses.  A minimum of 1 hour per day 5 days a week is suggested.  The results produced with small consistent efforts are unattainable by focusing 5 hours per week in 1 day.

Scientific studies show that any more than 20 hours of focused effort per week reduces the quality of results with every additional minute.

Individual experiences with WildLore mentoring support these studies.  Exactly how much time you choose to devote is entirely up to you as long as it is less than 20 hours.  Some perform best with as little as 45 minutes per day.  Results vary depending upon the individual.  Most benefit from varying the time invested instead of sticking to a rigid schedule.

"I was initially concerned that I might be asked to leave the program, because I felt I wasn't putting enough time into it… but Jon (Young) and Andrew (Ford) were very supportive and encouraging me to do is much as I could, and appreciate what I did accomplish."

-Melissa Mueller

National Outdoor Leadership School Instructor

Term Length

The 9 month term is based primarily on logistical needs as well as the desire for you to have down time to absorb what you've been learned.  An integral element of the mentoring process is the identification of individual talents and how these can be used to best advantage in our daily lives.

Mentoring focuses upon adapting cultural elements from native cultures into the modern lifestyle enabling you to "Walk in Two Worlds".  These mentoring tools are designed to accelerate the reconciliation of these two worlds though the organic nature of this process really doesn't allow for strict time limitations.  For this reason some will repeat the process and others will move on to something else.  One key point to understand about WildLore mentoring is that planned obsolescence is the goal so that neither the mentor nor any other training system is necessary for the continued growth.

Mentoring is different from teaching because mentoring is tailored to meet individual needs making a set curriculum unnecessary.  This process enables individuals to come and go whenever throughout the 9 month term.  When overlapping multiple terms, there are many benefits from working with different groups despite concerns of being thrust into unfamiliar environments with unknown individuals.

"This experience was very individualized.  I feel like I got a lot of one-on-one attention and instruction, and was treated as an individual.  That's really different than most educational experiences that I've had."

-Melissa Mueller

Each selected application is carefully chosen in order to achieve balance and harmony within the group which has always been open, receptive, and welcoming to newcomers.  Progress cannot be measured in a linear fashion and virtually no one starts in the same place so technically it's impossible to be behind the rest of the group.

In accordance with the natural law of reciprocity a financial investment is required.

As worldwide demand for the special talents of WildLore mentors grows, the time devoted to training individuals instead of groups becomes increasingly valuable.  To attend a week long workshop with any WildLore mentor you'd expect to pay nearly $1000 plus traveling expenses to join a large group between 30 or over 100 people.

If you've attended a workshop before then you know that whatever you learn you'll have to work hard to apply the lessons at home and you'll need tons of self discipline to make sure that you follow through with your plans.  Personal mentoring gives you only what you need now focusing on how to apply customized lessons to your specific situation.

Even though WildLore mentors sometimes receive $3000 per 2-3 hour talk this unique opportunity has been reduced to $997 per month.  Tuition for the entire trimester is due on the 1st of the month in which the trimester begins or upon approval of the application whichever comes last.

This approach supercharges your training into condensed time frames that you can easily absorb.  Workshops often blast you with so much information that you either can't use now or are unsure of how to apply to your unique situation.  Prearranged meeting times almost automates implementation making it easier than doing it all on your own.

"I have four years of college and received a BS degree in biology and I learned more in this program in the first three months then I did during four years of college."

WARNING: This Experience Is Not For Everyone

This experience requires a significant personal and financial commitment.  When increasing awareness you are also increasing your sensitivity magnifying personal strengths as well as weaknesses.  Insecurities you didn't even know you have will surface.  What seemed like trivial matters that you ignored in the past will attract more of your attention.  The path of knowledge contains many personal trials.  When challenged some people fail while others continue.  In 25 years of mentoring in this way no one has ever wanted to return to the way they were before their increase in awareness.

Experience Summary

  • Weekly conference calls 90 minutes or slightly more long
  • Biweekly individual calls with Jon Young
  • Biweekly individual call with another mentor of your choice
  • 3 live events
  • Kamana Naturalist Training independent study materials
  • Access to private on-line forum

This experience is designed to produce immediate results recognized by the successful completion of various tasks, trials, and challenges.  Peak experiences are usually discovered through reflection and memory.  There is a subtlety to the experience that shields the effect of the experience from the conscious mind until reviewing the experience with hindsight.

Increases in your understanding and awareness occur in small increments.  Knowing this, mentors draw your attention to improvements at appropriate intervals.  These indiscriminate changes often require outside influence to recognize the profound change and growth that has occurred as a result of the experience itself.   Skilled mentors are adept in enabling others to identify these changes.

No other mentoring or coaching alternative can reproduce the benefits gained from the Timeless Visions mentoring experience.

Having someone to watch over you to provide encouragement, constructive criticism, and to pull you along when necessary enables you to enjoy unprecedented levels of personal growth.

Linking yourself to the constantly growing body of knowledge, experience, and success strategies, will develop a lasting increase in your awareness and expand your world view.

Since every individual's situation, talents, and skill levels are different, this customized approach becomes invaluable in promoting long-term growth.  This individualized approach has been developed over centuries by your ancestors whose very survival depended upon producing maximum results with minimal risk and effort linked to the key principle in nature of conservation of energy.

Your success will be determined by your commitment, passion, and vision while embracing your fullest potential without fear or doubt.

The WildLore mentoring process is designed with planned obsolescence in mind so that you will continue to enjoy the benefits of mentoring without a mentor for the rest of your life.

The entire process is virtually automatic when you simply follow the core routines.  In fact the benefits of your learning journey will not only continue after your WildLore experience but will grow cumulatively with multiplying benefits the longer you practice the core routines.  In later years you will enjoy an even greater bonus for your efforts.

The odds of achieving breakthroughs while working with WildLore mentors are enormous when compared with working on your own.  Whatever you're doing now, you can expect to be doing better.  Whatever you're unable to do you'll learn quickly and effectively.  Whatever you're doing wrong will be easily corrected and replaced with powerful skills.

Different situations and time periods require different strategies.  What was once considered virtuous may now be considered a vice.  What is being offered to you is the most effective, appropriate strategies for our current challenging times.

The value of having all calls recorded for playback:

"One of the big benefits I found was that all of the conference calls and all the mentoring calls are recorded, so I can play them back whenever I want."

"I listen to a recording of the call we did two months ago.  I was surprised how elemental my questions were, and how much I've learned in just two months!"

How he improved his knowledge, appreciation, and awareness of the local wildlife
